Something in the house stopped working? Pick the problem, then call.

Each kind of job has its own line. Call the one that matches and we connect you to an independent local company that covers your area. It costs nothing to be connected.

Home Service Lab is a call routing service. We do not perform the work and do not set the price.

How this works

One call, no forms.

You call the line for your problem

Tell them what is happening and your ZIP code. There is nothing to fill in and no account to create.

We connect you to a company that covers you

We route the call to an independent home service company that works your area and handles that kind of job.

You and they agree the work

Timing, scope and price are settled directly between you and the company. Get it in writing before any work starts.

Being straight with you

What we are, and what we are not.

This site is a free service to assist homeowners in connecting with local service contractors. All contractors are independent and this site does not warrant or guarantee any work performed. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to verify that the hired contractor furnishes the necessary license and insurance required for the work being performed. All persons depicted in a photo or video are actors or models and not contractors listed on this site.

What we do

  • Match your trade and ZIP code to a company that covers it
  • Connect the call at no cost to you
  • Tell you what to check before anyone starts work

What we do not do

  • Employ the technicians or own any trucks
  • Set, quote or collect the price for the work
  • Stand behind, warrant or supervise the work performed
  • Publish reviews or star ratings we cannot verify

Before you agree to anything: ask the company for their license number and proof of insurance, and get the price in writing before work starts.

Questions

The things people actually ask.

Does it cost anything to call?

No. The call is free to you and there is no fee for being connected. The company that takes the job pays us for the introduction. Whatever the work itself costs is agreed between you and them.

Are you the company that comes to my house?

No. We are a call routing service. We connect you to an independent home service company operating in your area. They are a separate business with their own licensing, insurance, staff and pricing.

How do I know the person turning up is legitimate?

Ask them directly, before they start: their license number for the trade and state, and proof of current liability insurance. A legitimate operator will give you both without hesitating.

We are not going to claim we have personally verified every company on every renewal date, because that is the kind of claim this category makes routinely and cannot back up.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

We cannot, and you should be wary of anyone who does before seeing the job. What we can do is connect you to someone who will come and quote it. Get that quote in writing before work begins.

What if nobody covers my area?

Coverage varies by trade, and it is patchier in some rural ZIP codes, particularly for pest control. The quickest way to find out is to call the number for your problem and give your ZIP code.

Is this an emergency line?

No. If you smell gas, see sparking, or there is any risk to life, call 911 and your utility company first. Deal with the repair afterwards.

Still not sure which line to call?

Every trade has its own page with what to do first and what to ask on the doorstep.
