Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Home Service Lab collects when you visit homeservicelab.com or call a number on it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the site.
Who we are
Home Service Lab (homeservicelab.com) is operated by Spades Media Limited ("we", "us"). We run a call routing service: each trade on this site has a phone number, and calling it connects you to an independent home service company in your area. Those companies, or the partners who route calls to them, pay us for the introduction. Calling is free to you.
Information we collect
When you call. A call tracking provider routes your call. It records your phone number and caller ID details, the date, time and length of the call, the number you dialed and the page you called from. Calls are recorded for training and monitoring purposes, so the recording includes whatever you say on the call, such as your address, zip code and the problem you need fixed.
When you use the contact form. The form on our contact page is for businesses. It collects your name, email address, company, phone number and message.
When you browse. Like most websites, we and our service providers collect technical information automatically: your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages you view, the site that referred you, and identifiers from ad clicks. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see below).
We do not ask for payment details, and there are no accounts, logins or comments on this site. Please do not share sensitive information, such as health or financial details, on a call or through the form unless the company you are speaking to needs it for your job.
How we use it
- To connect your call to a company that serves your area and trade.
- To confirm calls with the companies and partners who pay us for them, and to settle billing questions.
- To monitor call quality, train staff and handle complaints.
- To measure how visitors find and use the site, and how well our advertising works.
- To reply to messages sent through the contact form.
- To prevent fraud and spam, keep the site secure, and meet our legal obligations.
How we share it
- Home service companies and routing partners. When we connect your call, the company (and any partner that routes calls to it) receives your phone number and what you tell them on the call. They handle it under their own privacy policies, not this one.
- Service providers. Companies that run call tracking, hosting, analytics, email and advertising for us, who may use it only to provide those services.
- Advertising platforms. Tags on the site may share browsing and conversion information with platforms such as Google so we can measure and improve our ads.
- Legal and safety. When the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
- Business transfers. If our business is sold or merged, the information may pass to the new owner, who will be bound by this policy.
Because the companies we connect you to pay us for the call, passing your call to them may count as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under some US state privacy laws. You can opt out on our Do Not Sell My Private Info page.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses Google Tag Manager, which may load analytics and advertising tags that set cookies or similar identifiers to measure visits, calls and ad performance. It also uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which measure page views and page speed in aggregate without cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of personalised Google ads at adssettings.google.com. Blocking cookies does not stop the phone numbers working.
How long we keep it
We keep call records, recordings and form messages only as long as we need them for the purposes above, including resolving billing questions with partners and meeting legal, tax and accounting requirements. After that we delete or anonymise them.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold. No website or phone system is completely secure, so no protection is perfect.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with privacy laws, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and how we use and share it;
- get a copy of it;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, or its use for targeted advertising.
To make a request, email jim.banks@spadesmedia.com with the phone number you called from, so we can find your records. We may need to verify your identity before acting on it. You can use an authorised agent to make a request for you. We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you also have rights under data protection law, including the right to object to how we use your information and to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office). We rely on our legitimate interests in running and improving the service, and on your consent where the law requires it for cookies.
Children
This site is meant for adults arranging work on their home. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your information is processed
We are based in the United Kingdom and our service providers operate in the United States and elsewhere, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live. Where the law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
Other websites
Links to other websites are not covered by this policy. Check their privacy policies before giving them your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and the current version always applies.
